History of The Shot Tower

Steeped in Industrial Heritage

The most prominent landmark building resting along the Shropshire Union Canal, The Shot Tower is the only surviving leadworks of its kind, dating back to the 18th century.
This industrial hub was one of the earliest lead shot manufacturing sites to utilise the method pioneered in the 1780s by Bristol inventor William Watts. Situated on the edge of a conservation site.
The Shot Tower is nestled on the edge of the former industrial section of Chester, just outside its historic core.
